Crypto Trends

A summary of the crypto trends for the week.

ETH2 Testnet recovery

Medalla has recovered after a major issue (a time travelling client), resulting in a huge drop in participation, days without finality and validators getting slashed.

This event was a big positive for the testnet and ETH2!

This should lead to an even greater focus on client diversity, functionality for stakers to change clients, plus increased robustness of clients and release processes.

We need client diversity. In ETH2 stakers are incentivized not to run a majority client! You don't want to get slashed.

Multifile smart contract verification

Verification is a pain point for the community.
See my thoughts on Easy multifile verification on block explorers. We will need multiple projects in the ecosystem to work together to make this easy.

As an aside, a lesson here is that infrastructure teams won't always know pain points unless the community tell them. So please share your pain points.

MetaMask commercial forks license

A commercial licence will be required for forks with >= 10K monthly active users. For everyone else, including users, nothing should change.

It seems appropriate timing for MetaMask to seek licenses for commercial forks as I expect to see a range of innovation for wallet interfaces with the wave of Layer 2 projects coming.
