Wrap ETH how it works

Hi friends I have a question sorry if i am so noob could you help me out?

The question is how can I wrap ETH I saw aave have the weth gateway so if i am right the ERC20 contract only have the same functions as any ERC20 token so in order to wrap eth you have a gateway but this gateway is not only for aave which it means uniswap have there own weth gateway and so on with other protocols? And so if you deposit one ETH they give you a WETH but the real ETH where is it stored? the weth gateway in low level say ok this address now have one WETH to the WETH erc20 contract or how it works ?

The gateway as you call it receives the ETH and mints WETH in its place. The gateway then can do what it wants with the ETH
