ERC1155 gas fee

Not really sure how gas fees are calculated with ERC1155.
From my understanding, you need to pay an upfront gas fee when minting a new NFT. (ex: minting gold)
Gas fees for copies of gold NFT are later on collected when a buyer purchase one of the gold tokens.
Please let me know if i missed anything.
